The Fourth Agreement Do Your Best

A day will come when the four agreements will become commonplace. They don`t even try. It`s automatic. It`s easy. One day, you will discover that you govern your life with the four chords. Can you imagine your life when these chords become a habit? Instead of fighting conflict and drama, their whole lives will be very easy! Whatever`s going on around you, don`t take it personally. Here is an example from the book: “When I see you in the street and I say to you, `Hey, you`re so stupid`, without knowing yourself, it`s not about you; It`s about me. If you take it personally, you may think you`re stupid. Maybe you`re thinking, “How does she know? Is she far-sighted, or can everyone see how stupid I am? This book, first published in 1997, has been sold more than 8.2 million times in the United States [1] and has been translated into 46 languages worldwide. [2] The book gained popularity after being supported by Oprah Winfrey in 2001 on the Oprah Winfrey Show and in 2013 in the television series Super Soul Sunday.

[3] This book has also been on the New York Times bestseller list for more than a decade. [1] The fourth agreement allows the first three agreements to become deeply rooted habits. Repetition and practice make you a master, but don`t expect to be able to master these chords immediately. Don`t expect you to always be impeccable with your word, or never take anything personally, or never make assumptions. Your habits are too strong and rooted in your mind. Do the best you can. If you do your best, you free yourself from guilt and shame. You feel great about yourself when you`ve given your best effort. You know you`re doing your best if you enjoy the action or if you`re doing it in a way that won`t have a negative impact on you.

You do your best because you want to do it, not because you have to, not because you try to please the judge in you, and not because you try to please others. Being impeccable is not against himself. If you are blameless, you take responsibility for your actions, but you do not judge or blame yourself. Being blameless with the word does not use the word against itself. The first three chords only work if you do your best. Don`t expect to be always able to be flawless with your word. But you can do your best. Don`t expect to never take something personal; Do the best you can.

Don`t expect to never adopt again, but you can certainly do your best. God is life. God is life in action. The best way to say, “I love you, God,” is to live your life and do your best. The best way to say, “Thank you, God,” is to let go of the past and live in the present moment, here and now. He said: “A single agreement is not such a problem, but we have many agreements that make us suffer, that make us fail in life. If you want to lead a life full of joy and accomplishment, you must find the courage to break the agreements that are based on fear and that claim your personal power.” Whatever the quality, do your best – no more and no less than your best. If you try too hard to do more than your best, you will expend more energy than is necessary, and in the end your best will not be enough.

First of all, it is important to understand that your best is not a constant; it`s going to vary. Sometimes you are fresh and vital; Sometimes you`re tired. Sometimes you`re healthy and sometimes sick. To the best of your ability, this is the best you can do in your current circumstances. The third agreement seems simple, but it is quite difficult to do so because we are used to doing the opposite. Therefore, you should always act. It will strengthen your will and a solid foundation for the new habit of developing. After many repetitions, these new chords will come in second place and you`ll see how the magic of your word transforms you.
